My High School Swimming Career - 975 Words

Swimming has been an integral part of my life since I was nine years old. I have swam on four different teams and have had several different coaches. My high school swimming experience has been particularly significant to me and can be accurately described by a quote in the novel Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. The quote, â€Å"It is more difficult and more bitter when a man fails alone,† (Achebe) can be used to describe my high school swimming career. As a freshman, I came into high school swim season not knowing what to expect. I was intimidated by the older swimmers and was anxious about the new team. I knew the coach from a team I had previously swam on; the relationship I had with this coach was not a positive one. I felt that I could do nothing to please her and she always found something to complain about.
